In practice
My DISC profile (Discflow) is Steadiness, leaning Compliance. In plain terms:
- I follow through. If I say I’ll do it, it gets done, and checked.
- I think before I answer. If you need a decision now, say so; otherwise I’ll come back with a considered one, usually within a day.
- Clear briefs get my best work. Tell me what good looks like. If priorities change, a one-line heads-up helps.
- I’m quiet in big groups. Ask what I think, or message me after; I usually have a view.
- Tell me directly when you disagree. I’d rather hear it than guess.
What helps, what doesn’t
SCARF is a short model of five things people watch for at work: status, certainty, autonomy, relatedness and fairness. Mine comes out strongest on certainty, then autonomy. In plain terms:
- Give me the plan early. A date, a deadline and what good looks like, and I’ll run with it. Changes sprung on me at the last minute are the one thing that throws me.
- Change I choose is fine; change that lands on me isn’t. If something has to move, tell me why and when, and I’ll adjust.
- Give me the problem, not the steps. Tell me the outcome you need and leave the how to me. I’ll check in if I’m unsure.
- I’ll ask questions up front. That’s me pinning down what you expect, not doubting you.
- I’m not chasing credit or titles. A clear brief and room to work are what I’m after.
- Happy working alone or alongside you. Either way, I like to know how a decision was made, even when it wasn’t mine.
